It was a wonderful sunny day, probably the warmest of the year so
far. It was warm enough at the out set that the frapping was
limited, but as the temps cooled some the youngsters (Rosie and Cooper)
really started wrestling in earnest with occasional support from the
seasoned elders (Cali and Giles).
Jaw jousting was the activity of choice for today with occasional frapping and digging. And of course lots of begging.
And now, presenting the Fluffy Jaw Jousting Movie
Staring the inexhaustible youngsters Rosie and Cooper, with on screen
commentary by Mark and off screen commentary by Patricia and Ellen.
At first everyone just relaxed in the relative heat (click on an image to get a larger version)
Cali posing in the ferns
With the always present begging and offers of "will work for food." You must have quite a bit of will power to resist.
In contrast, Mr Giles spent a lot of time relaxing on the bench with Patricia
Then the youngsters got going. While not Border Collies, young Corgis are nearly indefatigable and you really need to weigh this carefully if you're considering getting one. You will spend a lot
of time getting them tired and keeping them occupied (not that you
won't like it, but you will need to plan on spending a lot of time with
them). A corgi needs a job. If you don't give them one they will come up with one and you're not likely to like it. (My dog who was
tired from all the playing is now attempting to clean a room by
bringing me everything she can reach in it - she's eight years old and
still very active.)
Rosie (1 year) and Cooper (9 months) frapping (and frapping and frapping).
Cooper finally tired after 3 hours of almost steady play.
The movie and the photos are a clear testament to the amazing energy levels of young
corgis. If you want a dog with a lower energy level you may want
to consider a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel (Mr. Giles).
